The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis and Wikipedia explains it this way
Osteoarthritis is most commonly a disease of the elderly. It can affect both the larger and the smaller joints of the body, including the hands, wrists, feet, back, hip, and knee. The disease is essentially one acquired from daily wear and tear of the joint; however, osteoarthritis can also occur as a result of an injury. Osteoarthritis begins in the cartilage and eventually causes the two opposing bones to erode into each other.

Another necessary tool is the 5 in 1 Multi-kitchen tool if your hands are weak and you are having difficulty opening cans and lids this is just the tool for you. I can vouch for this product, no more waiting until my husband gets home to open my jars and lids so I can finish dinner. One of the things I love most about this product is that it has the visual directions for each “tool” printed right on the side of the gadget. You don’t need to “try” or save some little piece of paper printed in the smallest font that you need glasses to read. It opens bottles and flip tabs easily. I did a review on two can openers that are great for arthritic hands that you might want to check out here. Both of them are highly praised.
